This course focuses on the principles and methods of genetic improvement in self-pollinated crops. It covers the inheritance of traits, selection techniques, hybridization methods, pure-line development, and population improvement strategies. Emphasis is placed on exploiting genetic variability to develop high-yielding, disease-resistant, and quality cultivars suited for different agro-climatic conditions. Practical breeding approaches and modern tools for varietal development are also discussed.
