Course Overview:
Film Appreciation (DSCJMC 303) is designed to introduce students to cinema as a significant form of artistic expression, cultural documentation, and social commentary. The course explores the evolution of film as a medium of communication, examining its language, techniques, aesthetics, and socio-political relevance. Through the study of global film movements and notable filmmakers, students will develop a critical understanding of how films reflect and shape society.


Course Objectives:

  • To understand the basic grammar and language of cinema

  • To explore the narrative, visual, and technical components of film

  • To trace the historical evolution of cinema both globally and in India

  • To study landmark films and movements that shaped cinematic traditions

  • To build analytical skills for interpreting and critiquing films
